  8.        mng - Multiple-image Network Graphics (MNG) format
  9.  
  10. DDEESSCCRRIIPPTTIIOONN
  11.        MNG  (Multiple-image  Network  Graphics)     is the    animation
  12.        extension of the    popular    PNG image-format.  PNG    (Portable
  13.        Network    Graphics)  is  an  extensible file format for the
  14.        lossless,  portable,  well-compressed  storage  of  raster
  15.        images.

  17.        MNG  has     advanced  animation  features which make it very
  18.        useful as a full    replacement  for  GIF  animations.  These
  19.        features     allow animations that are impossible with GIF or
  20.        result in much smaller files as GIF.

  22.        As MNG builds on    the same structure as PNG, it is  robust,
  23.        extensible and free of patents. It retains the same clever
  24.        file integrity checks as    in PNG.

  26.        MNG also    embraces the lossy JPEG    image-format  in  a  sub-
  27.        format  named JNG, which    allows for alpha-transparency and
  28.        color-correction     on  highly   compressed   (photographic)
  29.        images.
